The City of Chesapeake’s Department Public Work Engineering division is seeking a Design Project Manager to perform engineering design and review of municipal drainage and transportation infrastructure improvement projects within our Design / Construction Management Section. The position is responsible for researching and analyzing engineering data, reviewing and designing plans, approving and maintaining related engineering information, and providing assistance with project inquiries and concerns.
The position will serve as the Project Manager (PM) on various Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) during design while delivering projects on time and within budget. Projects will be designed in house and with Consultants. Projects will be managed using local funds and / or through the Local Administrative Project (LAP) program with federal and state funds.

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in construction, civil engineering, or closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : In addition to satisfying the vocational / education standards, this class requires a minimum of six years of relevant, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with .
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications
