The Office of the State Courts Administrator is seeking a skilled writer and content producer to join a dynamic team of communications professionals supporting the State Courts System. Florida’s courts have a compelling story to share, and we are looking for a team member eager to tell that story in a clear, engaging, and informative way.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the mission of the courts to protect rights and liberties, uphold the law, and provide a peaceful resolution of disputes through the development of high-quality communications for both internal and external audiences. You’ll collaborate with dedicated professionals across the state and at all levels of the judicial system.

Education : Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or Creative Writing.

Experience : Four years of related work experience in journalism, editing, or writing.

Competencies

Writing : A demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, and engagingly under deadlines is required – including creating video, graphic, and online content.

Data Responsibility : Conducts research to discover new methodologies or to find solutions for unresolved problems. Synthesizes or integrates analysis of data or information to discover facts or develop knowledge or interpretations; modifies policies, procedures, or methodologies based on findings.

People Responsibility : Coordinate with topic experts to assess potential topic areas for articles for publication, gather background information on these topic areas, achieve a detailed and accurate understanding of these topic areas, and get feedback on the finished product.

Interview judges, court administrators, public information officers, justice partners, and others for required information to produce compelling content.

Assets Responsibility : Requires responsibility and opportunity for achieving economies and / or preventing losses through the management or handling of assets.

Mathematical Requirements : Uses addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; may compute ratios, rates, and percentages. Sophisticated approach to data analysis and a basic understanding of data presentation.

Communications Requirements : Reads and interprets highly complex professional and legal materials involving abstract theories and concepts; writes about complex legal memoranda and reports; develops and presents reports in a way that is straightforward, easy to understand, and relatable. Experience with online content management is required.

Complexity of Work : Performs work involving the application of principles of logical thinking, scientific, medical, or legal practice to diagnose or define problems, collect data, and solve abstract problems with widespread unit or organization impact; requires sustained, intense concentration for accurate results and continuous exposure to unusual pressure.

Impact of Decision : Makes decisions with serious impact - affects most units in the organization and may affect other organizations and the general public.

Equipment Usage : Handle office machines, tools, equipment, or work aids involving some latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items, such as computers, peripherals, video and photographic equipment, or software programs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Ability to use Microsoft Office products.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to work collaboratively with management staff.

Ability to manage multiple and complex projects.

Ability to work independently, to research and make recommendations on innovations and best practices for assigned projects, and to meet deadlines.

A basic knowledge and understanding of the structure and operations of the Florida judicial system is not required, but is considered beneficial.
