Student Applications Developer
Virginia's community colleges have a 50-year track record of educational excellence and innovation to serve the needs of our citizens and strengthen the Commonwealth's economy. When Virginia's General Assembly established the Virginia Community College System in 1966, the need for a comprehensive system was well known. Over the two decades after the end of World War II, leaders in government, business, professional sectors, and academia had called for a new approach to providing educational opportunity. A key concern was Virginia's ability to develop a skilled and knowledgeable workforce to expand the state's economy. Today our community colleges give every Virginian the opportunity to gain a quality education. With 23 colleges on 40 campuses located throughout the state, Virginia's Community Colleges are committed to serving Virginia families, helping them acquire the knowledge and skills to seize the opportunities of today and tomorrow.
The Student Applications Developer will support the Virginia Community College System's enterprise Student Information System (Campus Solutions 9.2) and related student-facing applications. The incumbent provides development, configuration, administration, and performance monitoring for SIS components, integrations, and reporting. The role is responsible for designing and supporting complex solutions that improve student experience, enable operational efficiency, and integrate with external products such as Salesforce, EAB, test score systems, eForms, and future solutions such as Oracle Student Financial Planning (SFP). The position requires knowledge in Campus Solutions 9.2 table and field structures, including the ability to write SQL, SQR, and Java code, as well as familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for customizations and bolt-on applications. The incumbent must be able to read / debug logs (especially Integration Broker and Application Messaging) to support real-time data flows, troubleshoot issues, and ensure reliability of SIS integrations with third-party and cloud systems.
The developer collaborates closely with functional leads, other developers, and integration platform staff (Boomi, Salesforce, etc.) to deliver stable, efficient, and scalable student applications that directly support VCCS's mission of providing affordable and accessible education to all Virginians.
