Position :   Software QA / QC Specialist

Assignment Type :  6 month contract with potential for hire

Pay Rate :   $40-$45 / hour

Converting Salary :   $70K - $80K

Work Schedule :   IIn-Office Monday-Friday, 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM

Company Overview :

Our client is a Houston-based, privately held innovator founded in 2005, focused on delivering rugged, field-ready handheld detection systems that identify explosives, narcotics, HMEs, and other chemical threats. The product line includes military-grade trace detectors, mobile app-enabled testing kits, and advanced analytic tools such as Raman spectrometers and handheld ruggedized devices. Serving the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, first responders, and allied agencies, all systems are built in the USA to enhance safety and operational readiness.

Role Overview :

Responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and user experience of the client’s software products and related embedded systems. This role combines rigorous testing, critical analysis, and cross-team communication to maintain high product standards.

Environment :

  • Linux background
  • Experience building on a software integration platform, such as QT
  • C++ experience
  • Occasional use of Java or Python for analytical tools (not a hard requirement)
  • Strong QA / QC experience, preferably in software
  • Ability to plan and run experiments, isolate variables, and apply critical thinking
  • Familiarity with mobile applications, scientific devices, and embedded systems a plus
  • Experience in other disciplines such as electronics, statistics, mathematics, chemistry, or similar is a plus

About the Role :

  • Work on smartphone applications and embedded devices, writing software for Linux-based systems
  • Standardize and improve the current QC process (release documentation and consistent execution)
  • Develop and execute test plans, including performance, compatibility, UI / UX, I / O, and release testing
  • Define scope for manual and automated testing; recommend improvements to testability
  • Perform detailed validation and testing of smartphone software and rugged, embedded devices
  • Test Android / iOS apps and Linux-based handheld devices
  • Test software I / Os; document and communicate results
  • Review software documentation and requirements; contribute to product design from a quality perspective
  • Evaluate and report on vendor-supplied hardware / software during R&D
  • Process bug reports, crashes, and feedback; collaborate with PMs and developers to prioritize fixes
