At SLR, we are seeking a Senior Engineer or Scientist to join our busy Mesa, Arizona operations. This position will focus on field support for permitting and compliance, such as air quality, waste management, and water quality, including APP, AZPDES, SWPPP, and SPCC. As our new senior Engineer or Scientist, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

  • The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Responsibilities :

  • Develop well-written plans that fulfill regulatory requirements for air quality, groundwater, stormwater, SPCC, and other environmental programs
  • Review of federal, state, and local regulations for applicability determinations and compliance tasking
  • Review client programs for the purpose of identifying environmental compliance gaps
  • Multi-task and work concurrently on multiple projects
  • Manage small projects that are routinely on-time and on-budget
  • Coordinate day-to-day tasks with team and supervisor
  • Work with clients from a variety of industries or agencies, in various locations inside and outside of the United States
  • Travel to client facilities to support project efforts
  • Participate in internal, client, and agency meetings
  • Physical Demands

    Field work and travel are expected to be a part of this position. With or without accommodation, employees are expected to perform the following activities :

  • Perform field work at local and out-of-state job sites
  • Travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel
  • Work in inclement weather conditions
  • Work at high elevations
  • Frequently walk or climb stairs
  • Lift and / or move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Handle large items
  • Qualifications / Education / Memberships :

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Biology, Geology, Chemistry, Environmental Science or related field
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in environmental work and some previous knowledge of the following areas :
  • o Experience with project management, keeping within budget and timelines

    o Permitting and compliance for mining and industrial facilities

    o Hazardous waste management

    o Development and implementation of stormwater pollution prevention plans and / or Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures plans

    o Experience conducting environmental compliance audits / inspections or environmental document review at industrial facilities

    o Collection of stormwater, wastewater, soil, and / or groundwater samples for laboratory analyses

  • Excellent written / verbal communication and organization / analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and on teams in a fast-paced consulting firm environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Possess a valid driver's license
  • Willing and able to travel within North America by airplane and car, including overnight travel
  • Familiarity and experience working onsite in industrial and mining facilities
  • Superb problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and clients and foster a positive working relationship
  • Self-motivated, requiring limited supervision and direction
  • Preferred

  • Understanding of industrial and mining operations and equipment, large and small
  • Mechanical and / or electrical aptitude
  • Skilled in preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge
  • Drone experience and capabilities
