Position Summary
The Communications Engineer has full responsibility to develop the Communications System from design through construction, testing and commissioning of the project. Work as part of a team to develop the overall communications designs and integration with existing customer system such that there are no scope gaps, and the systems are functional and acceptable to the customer.
Primary / Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- On design-build projects, ensure that design development stays within the confines of how the project was bid such that any unnecessary scope creep is avoided
- Ensures that all communications design work follows the project schedule and is executed timely to meet the Projects’ needs
- Supports the Construction Managers in the development of installation plans and provide comments as to adherence to project requirements
- Assist in producing the project’s pre & post Communications CDRL requirements including product data, design, test procedures, test reports, O&M Manuals & Training Material submittals
- Update all required close out documentation that is required to be submitted and approved to achieve final acceptance
- Identify project Bill of Materials and assist in the procurement of communications equipment
- Conduct testing and commissioning activities for the communication systems along with provide support to the agency’s integrated systems testing as required
Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree Minimum or zero to three years’ experience in a similar role on major rail Projects. Electrical bias preferred – Transit experience would be a benefitKnowledge of all communications systems typically used on transit systemsFamiliar with the following subsystems : CCTV Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, PA Systems, SCADA, Networking and / or radio technologies, Passenger Information Systems, Access Control SystemsFiberoptic systemsExperience with base Microsoft Office ProgramsExperience with AutoCAD is preferred, but not requiredAbility to meet deadlinesGood written and oral communication skillsHighly self-motivated and directedStrong attention to detailTransparent communicatorProven analytical and creative problem-solving abilitiesStrong organization and interpersonal skillsPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions
Willing to travel to assist with installation and commissioning of the designed systems.
