Journalism and Public Relations Instructional Support Assistant II

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the chair of the Department of Journalism & Public Relations (JPR), the Journalism & Public Relations Instructional Support Assistant II serves the equipment needs of the department and its affiliated student media, works with faculty and staff to ensure inventory is up-to-date, creates multimedia content, serves as the department's website administrator, manages all aspects of its equipment loan program and organizes procurement of equipment and software. The department has approximately 42 faculty (10 tenured / tenure-track, 3 FERP, 30 lecturers), two BAs (536), two minors (121) and four student media. Fall 24 FTES of (477.6) and FTEF (20.9).

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate the equipment operations for the department - In consultation with faculty and chair, assesses equipment needs, research, make recommendations on cameras (still and broadcast), software applications, recording devices, and utilities that would best meet instructional curriculum needs.
• Assist CLA Technical Services providing liaison on all technical operations - Serves as a first level technical support for the faculty, staff, and instruction labs, also a technical liaison between department and the College Technical Services Office. This includes assisting in coordinating projects . labs refresh.
• Serve as department website administrator and create multimedia content - Coordinates department website administration with department chair, faculty, and CLA Communications Team. Draft content. Post approved content to the department website in a timely manner.
• Create and deliver technology demonstrations (in class) and workshops for department faculty, staff, and students.
• Oversee student assistant(s).

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, including faculty, staff, students, and vendors. They possess a solid working knowledge of support service procedures and instructional equipment, enabling them to inspect and assess materials, supplies, and tools for appropriate use, as well as demonstrate their functionality and manage service schedules efficiently. Technologically adept, they are proficient in Windows, Word, Drupal, Adobe Acrobat Pro, email, spreadsheets, databases, Ad Astra, CMS for PC, and audio / video hardware and editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite. Additionally, they excel in communicating essential information clearly and effectively through both written and oral channels.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Education and Experience

Equivalent to one year of experience performing support services for an instructional program and involving such activities as preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment required.

Effective 10 / 1 / 2025, a new salary step structure and job classifications will be implemented under the CSU-CSUEU Agreement. Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range : The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $3,746 - $5,881 per month.

1.0 time-base, 40 hours per week.

Duration of Appointment

This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
