Reports To : Vice President, Analytics and AI

Purpose

As a visionary AI transformation leader, the Principal Data Scientist is responsible for leading our data science team and setting the standard for excellence in data-driven decision making. This role will lead other Data Scientists, establish and uphold best practices in data modeling, model deployment, and training requirements. The Principal Data Scientist will collaborate closely with the heads of Analytics, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure the ethical and compliant use of data, and that all AI initiatives adhere to organizational and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, mentors, and develops a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Defines and enforces standards for data modeling, model deployment, and model training requirements to ensure robust, scalable, and maintainable AI solutions.
  • Partners with the Vice President, Analytics and AI, to align AI initiatives with business strategy and drive measurable impact.
  • Collaborates with Legal and Compliance to ensure all data usage and AI applications meet regulatory, privacy, and ethical standards.
  • Oversees the end-to-end lifecycle of AI projects, from ideation to model deployment and monitoring.
  • Works with Data Architect to evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to advance the organization’s AI capabilities.
  • Communicates complex technical concepts and project outcomes to non-technical stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Champions data governance, quality, and security best practices across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of deploying AI / ML models in production environments.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience leading and developing high-performing data science teams.
  • Deep expertise in data modeling, machine learning, and AI deployment best practices.
  • Strong understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience working in regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, finance).
  • Work Environment

    This position operates in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as reading or working with various forms of data for extended periods on a computer screen.
