Senior GIS Architect – ArcGIS Enterprise Implementation

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior GIS Architect to lead the design, deployment, and configuration of a multi-environment ArcGIS Enterprise architecture. This role will guide the implementation of both Staging and Production environments that incorporate Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Server, Web Adapter, and Object Store , as well as integrated SQL Server enterprise geodatabases .

You’ll be responsible for defining architecture, system configurations, high availability design, automation, documentation, and long-term geospatial strategy. The ideal candidate is a senior technical expert in GIS infrastructure, particularly within Microsoft or Azure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Architect and document a multi-environment ArcGIS Enterprise system (Staging & Production) with high availability and secure isolation

Define licensing, network (DNS, ports), and server requirements per ESRI and enterprise standards

Deploy and configure ArcGIS Enterprise 11.3+ instances in accordance with security, performance, and availability best practices

Design backup and disaster recovery strategies for enterprise GIS environments

Create detailed logical and physical architecture diagrams

Manage geospatial data infrastructure to ensure data integrity, versioning, interoperability , and compliance

Automate deployment and maintenance using Python (ArcPy) and PowerShell

Develop and optimize enterprise geodatabases, web services, and apps

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to internal GIS teams

Recommend best practices for user roles, permissions, monitoring, and system scaling

Requirements

Required Skills & Experience

8+ years in GIS system architecture, design, and deployment

Proven experience with ArcGIS Enterprise in multi-environment setups

Proficiency in :

ArcGIS Server configuration, DNS, ports, and firewalls

Geodatabase design, spatial analysis, and enterprise data workflows

Scripting for automation ( Python / ArcPy, SQL, PowerShell )

Web services and APIs ( REST, SOAP )

Familiarity with Esri licensing , user roles, and administrative best practices

Strong collaboration, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills

Able to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments

Highly Desired

ESRI-certified Enterprise System Design Professional (ESDP2201)

Experience with monitoring and diagnostics tools :

ArcGIS Monitor

System Log Parser

eGDB Health Checks

System Designer

Experience with Microsoft Azure environments
