Sewer Collection Operator
The operator of the City of Reidsville's "Vac Truck" is responsible for performing preventative and corrective cleaning of the City's sewer collection system.
Duties :
- Maintaining, flushing and clearing obstructions in the sanitary sewerage and storm drainage pipe systems and facilities in the City of Reidsville.
- Installs, maintains and repairs sanitary sewer systems, storm water collection systems and all related accessories.
- Locates, records and reports problem areas where systems may require more frequent maintenance due to low flows, poor grades, or other problems.
- Carries out main flushing and cleaning programs on a routine, progressive basis, with problem areas having priority.
- Maintains concise logs and records pertaining to the operation, repair, and inspection of maintenance work performed.
- Carries out all work in accordance with prescribed safety policies, procedures and regulations of the City of Reidsville.
- May be required to perform minor supervisory duties and to assist one or more subordinates with various duties related to the work.
- Ensure that the work is completed and equipment is operated in a safe, efficient, effective and responsible manner, and in accordance with all Legislation, and Department Standard Operating Procedures.
- Report any non-conformances, hazards or operational problems associated with the operation.
- Maintain accurate records of works undertaken and respond to two-way radio when assistance is required.
- Carry out weekend water and sewer on-call duties on a rotational basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Thorough knowledge of the City of Reidsville's safe work procedures, policies and regulations.Good working knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment pertaining to the construction, repair and maintenance of municipal utilities.Demonstrated skills, knowledge and ability to operate multiple pieces of industry related equipment;Good knowledge of the names and locations of City streets is necessaryAbility to comprehend and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to prepare and maintain accurate logs and records.Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the public and other workers, communicating with courtesy and tact in explaining and exchanging data or information.Ability to work as part of a team and / or unsupervised.Ability to follow oral and written instructions and compile reports.Ability to work on various shift and weekend rotational shift.Ability to work independently in accordance with established standards and procedures.Must be in good physical health and have sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the required work.Demonstrated skills, knowledge and ability to operate multiple pieces of industry related equipment.Qualifications :
High school graduate or GED.Good driving record.Ability to pass annual DOT physical exam.Applicant must possess a valid Class B CDL (commercial driver's license) issued by the State of North Carolina, with a Tanker Endorsement.Ability to lift and work with heavy objects such as manhole covers, frames, and industry related materials.Demonstrate ability to safely carry out repairs to water, sewer, and storm system.Demonstrate knowledge and ability to operate components of a water, sewer and storm system.
