Departmental Summary : The facilities team provides a safe, comfortable healing environment for our patients, visitors and caregivers by keeping the facility in peak operational condition.

Position Overview : The Facilities Maintenance Engineer at St. Charles Health System (St. Charles Health System) provides for the safety and comfort of patients, visitors, and employees by keeping the facility in peak operational condition. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Essential Functions and Duties :

  • Assists the supervisor in the completion of recognized tasks.
  • Keeps current with new technologies in our industry.
  • Provides for the safety and comfort of the occupants of the facility.
  • Maintains all equipment assigned to the department.
  • Assists with special projects, as needed.
  • Operates the hospital's utility, energy, and life safety systems.
  • Performs preventative and corrective maintenance on all facilities-related equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Responds to fire alarms and code calls in accordance with established work instructions.
  • Performs chemical testing, analysis, and treatment on the hospital's boilers and steam systems.
  • Performs customer-initiated work requests.
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Delivers customer service and / or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.

Education :

Required : High school diploma or GED required.

Preferred : N / A

Licensure / Certification / Registration :

Required : Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to business functions / trainings / meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites required.

Preferred : LME, Journeyman or Supervisor electrical license preferred. Plumbing license or refrigeration experience.

Experience :

Required : Two or more years of facilities and plant operations education and experience. Six months or more of electrical, electronic, plumbing, and / or refrigeration work experience required or a combination of education and similar relevant experience. Must be able to interpret blueprint drawings, diagrams, and schematics. PC computer experience.

Preferred : One or more years of hospital maintenance experience is preferred. Two years of experience operating boilers of 100 psi or above and chiller plants preferred. Military Facilities / Engineering Plant-related training and experience highly preferred. Electrical license considered a plus. Experience with power generation equipment, preferably emergency diesel gen sets and emergency electrical feeders. Medical Gas certification preferred. Experience with hospital bed repairs preferred.

Personal Protective Equipment :

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Continually (75% or more) : Standing, walking, lifting / carrying / pushing / pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping / squeezing

Frequently (50%) : Sitting, stooping / kneeling / crouching, climbing stairs, lifting / carrying / pushing / pulling 11-25 pounds.

Occasionally (25%) : Climbing ladder / step stool, reaching overhead, Lifting / carrying / pushing / pulling 25-50 pounds, Operation of Motor Vehicle, Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Rarely (10%) : Keyboard Operation

Never (0%) : Whispered speech level

Occasionally (25%) : Heat, cold, wet / slippery area, noise, dust, vibration, chemical solution, uneven surface
