Somali Medical Interpreter (PRN)
University Health is seeking a fluent Somali-English Medical Interpreter to join our Language Access Services team. In this vital role, you'll help Somali-speaking patients and families communicate clearly with doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff. Your interpretation will support safe, respectful, and culturally appropriate care.

High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of six months' experience in medical interpretationDemonstrated fluency in English and target language, with a passing score of 85% or higher on a validated language competency examSuccessful completion of a formal medical interpreter training program (e.g., Bridging the Gap, JCCC, SBA, or equivalent)Strong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred Qualifications :
National certification through a recognized body (e.g., CCHI or NBCMI)Experience interpreting in clinical environments with diverse patient populationsLanguage Access PRN Requirements :
Must be available for a minimum of 8 shifts per month, including one weekend or 2nd / 3rd shiftMay only request a shift change with prior approval from supervisor or managementHoliday coverage requirement : must work one shift annually from each holiday category :Category 1 : New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas DayCategory 2 : MLK Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor DayMake a difference in health careapply today!
