Chief of Pediatrics
Position Description
The State University of New York College of Optometry, and its patient care facility, the University Eye Center (UEC), seeks outstanding applicants for the position of Chief, Pediatrics Section of the Primary Care Service. This is a full-time faculty position within the College, and has both clinical and academic responsibilities. In this position, the Chief of Pediatrics is expected to provide senior clinical and scholarly leadership to the Pediatrics Section of the UEC, and participate in the didactic and clinical education of OD students in the College' professional degree program.
The Chief of Pediatrics is an integral member of the clinical administration team and provides strategic leadership to the medical staff providing eye care to the infant, pediatric and children with special needs patient populations of the UEC. The Chief of Pediatrics is expected to develop and integrate evidence-based practices into pediatric clinical care, provide supervision and mentoring to clinical faculty, incorporate interprofessional education and practice, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff to enhance the student-educational and patient experiences. The successful candidate will participate and innovate in the College's educational and / or research programs. The Chief will hold an appropriate faculty rank within the College commensurate with his or her experience.
The Chief of Pediatrics is a member of the Clinic Council and Clinical Education Council; maintains compliance with New York State rules and regulations governing Diagnostic and Treatment Centers, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards and regulatory requirements; is responsible for the strategic development and management of the Center for Pediatric Eye Care; budgeting; inter- and intra-departmental communications regarding the Service; and developing and implementing Service-specific goals in line with the College's mission.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in and integrate the clinical, educational, and research missions of the College. The candidate should have excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, and the ability to manage faculty and staff in an academic healthcare setting. A Doctor of Optometry degree is required. Candidates must be licensed in New York State prior to employment. A minimum of three years of administrative / supervisory experience in an academic or healthcare setting is preferred. Residency training or advanced degrees are highly desirable
The minimum salary is $100k with final salary commensurate with education, training and experience. There is also a generous benefit package with fifteen days of annual leave to start and 13 paid holidays per year.
