Responsibilities :

• Collaborate with the Director of Project Rebound to identify, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative programs.
• Focus on justice-involved student outreach, academic success, leadership development, and overall student enrichment.
• Support student recruitment strategy and assist with student matriculation into graduate programs.
• Serve as a mentor and advisor to students, providing guidance and encouragement.
• Work closely with interns and student assistants to design and deliver impactful programs.
• Be a resource for sensitive equity-related issues, crisis situations, and individualized student concerns.
• Foster an environment of empathy and understanding.
• Assist in organizing center programs and events.
• Contribute to the smooth functioning of Project Rebound operations.

Department Summary

The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Diversity is responsible for the coordination and development of student services and building the inclusive excellence of SDSU's staff and faculty at San Diego State University. Departments include, but not limited to, Assistant Deans for Student Affairs; Career Services; Center for Educational Partnerships, Outreach and Success; Communications Services; Counseling and Psychological Services; Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs; Financial Aid and Scholarships; Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center; New Student and Parent Programs; Office of the Student Ombudsman; Residential Education; Resource Management; Student Ability Success Center; Student Health Services; Student Life and Leadership; Student Rights and Responsibilities; Testing Services Office; Well-being & Health Promotion; Cultural Centers; and programming related to Inclusive Excellence.

Project Rebound supports formerly incarcerated prospective students in pursuing higher education pathways that lead to matriculation at San Diego State University. The program collaborates with community colleges, regional jails and prisons, reentry facilities, transitional housing centers, and California’s Department of Rehabilitation (DOR).

Prospective students receive academic advising, coaching for enrollment and registration, and connections to DOR’s financial aid support. Enrolled students continue to receive these services and are also supported through extracurricular activities including professional development, leadership capacity building, and community engagement.

Project Rebound connects incarceration and higher education through student support programs, community outreach, and interdisciplinary conversations across SDSU and beyond. The program advocates for justice that transforms communities and students.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Possession of this knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
