Job Description Summary

The purpose of this job is to assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and promoting programs and services. Coordinates special events and assists in program marketing and communications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description

  • Coordinates and plans special events and programs, such as the Celebration of the Arts, Columbia Values Diversity Celebration, Make Music Day, Poetry Out Loud competition, Creative Kids Family Fun Fest, as well as other workshops throughout the year.
  • Implements marketing and communication strategies and initiatives, including conducting media interviews, developing promotional materials, creating newsletters, and producing content for social media platforms.
  • Assists with the Percent for Art Program, Public Art License Program, Commemorative Poster initiative, and call-to-artist activities. Assists in coordinating projects with artists and with public art collections management.
  • Establishes and fosters community partnerships.
  • Assists committees and commissions.
  • Performs records management and database maintenance.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Arts, Communication, Business, Public Relations, or related field.
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in arts, communication, business, public relations, or related field.
  • Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position Knowledge of :

  • Public art.
  • Social media.
  • Event planning and fundraising methods.
  • General office practices and administrative procedures, records management, and administration techniques and procedures
  • Common design and business software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Marketing and design methods.
  • English grammar, Associate Press style, and various communication media uses.
  • Skill in :

  • Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
  • Organizing work and managing time effectively.
  • Applying active listening and asking questions for understanding.
  • Ability to :

  • Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Hours / Days General office hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required. Starting Salary $20.24 / hr to $24.89 / hr (Minimum to Midpoint); Commensurate with training and experience.
