We are looking for a candidate who wants to take full ownership of running the Outside Operations at an exclusive private golf club located directly on the Atlantic Ocean. This position would have 4-5 direct reports and would be strongly encouraged to help mentor his staff to provide exceptional customer service.
Sailfish Point Golf Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1981. It recently underwent it’s second renovation in 2021 and is considered one of the best private golf communities in the state of Florida. The club’s season runs from October 15th through April 30th.
The new Director of Golf, Mike Demakos, has spent time working at Augusta National Golf Club, Bel-Air Country Club, East Hampton Golf Club and other clubs prior to his 17 years at Nantucket Golf Club. He uses his experiences and relationships to mentor young Assistant Professionals to become successful once they take on a Head Professional position of their own.
Currently, at least twelve of his former staff are in Head Golf Professional positions now. Experience Required
Qualifications :
- Detailed knowledge of golf industry standards
- Requires a polished and professional demeanor in manner and appearance
- Solid judgement, ability to anticipate, and skilled in multi-tasking at a high level
- Excellent communication and member service skills
- High attention for detail and great organizational skills
- Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, tee time, time and labor, and phone systems)
Work Environment and Physical Demands :
Work tasks are performed mainly outdoors and involve physical strength and endurance. Must be able to work in varying temperatures and inclement weather.Requires frequent bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling, intervals of walking, standing, and sitting during the day. Must have the ability to walk rolling terrain.Requires communicating effectively with members, guests, co-workers, and supervisors.Must be able to lift and transport up to 50 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis.May also experience exposure to the following : carbon monoxide fumes from cars, equipment, various insects and native / domestic animals, potentially damaging noise levels, and a variety of dirt, mud, dust, pollen, and approved pesticides and cleaning chemicals.Must be able to drive golf carts and use maintenance related equipment.Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary vehicles and equipment.Essential Responsibilities
Purpose of Position : Under the direction of the Director of Golf, the Outside Operations Manager is exempt seasonal position position responsible for assisting in the professional and efficient management of Golf Outside Service operations. Ensures the highest level of service as meets expectations of Club members. Performs all work in accordance with essential functions and responsibilities as described below and in the spirit of the Club's mission and vision.
Responsibilities :
Duties shall include but not be limited to :
Provides the highest level of service to Club members and guests. Is knowledgeable of members and anticipates their needs. Ensures outside service golf experiences at SPGC meet their expectations.Assists starters in managing the tee sheet and starting duties, providing a smooth transition from the practice tee, to putting green, to the first tee. Professionally manages and accommodates members and guests with walk-ins and tee time issues / problems.Responsible for training, supervising and development of Outside Service staff in accordance with Club policies and procedures. directly involved with hiring, and performance improvement and scheduling.Responsible for accurate record keeping of all daily play, pace of play record, and any other necessary tracking functions. Coordinates with Golf Shop to ensure accurate and timely fee charges. Completes additional reports as assigned.Reports member and guest activity to other departments and conveys daily golf course conditions to the Golf Course Superintendant and GCM Assistants.Monitors golfing rules and regulations and reports infractions to Director of Golf.Directs golf car usage on and off the golf course for members, guests, and Outside Service staff.Assists with organizing golf bags on the practice tee and back of the range for regular play and the lesson schedule. Coordinates with Golf staff any transportation of members and guests clubs.Works collaboratively with professional teaching staff keeping informed of daily lesson activity, cancellations, and requests.Responsible for ensuring that the golf course is properly marked at all times and for the correct appearance, stocking, organization, and cleanliness of on-course supplies and supply boxes. Organizes and maintains cleanliness of Outside Service golf cars, practice tee, back of the range short game area, bagroom, guest storage room, club repair room, golf balls, and supply storage.Responsible for maintaining overall cleanliness of cart barn and storage areas.Responsible for managing and maintaining range ball rotation, rental club inventory, club repair and grip inventory, and Outside Service supplies.Oversees member and guest golf club shipping. Tracks and troubleshoots any delivery issues.Assists with tournaments as directed.Responsible for seasonal opening and closing procedures.Observes all Club safety practices and protocols.Performs other duties as designated by the Director of Outside Service and senior management.Projected Work Schedule :
Must be available for a full time work schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. Average hours worked each week to be approximately 40-50 hours. An additional work day may be required during a tournament week. Any expected absence from this work schedule will need to have prior approval from the Director of Golf.
