Equipment Operator-LC / TV
The Equipment Operator-LC / TV performs a variety of intermediate skilled duties including the operation of highly specialized sewer cleaning and pipe assessment equipment used to evaluate the sanitary sewer collection system. The Equipment Operator-LC / TV assists in providing basic to complex assessments of the condition of the sewer collection system and initiates repair, replacement, or rehabilitation to prevent sanitary sewer overflows. This position must promote safety awareness at all times in accordance with SAWS safety guidelines and policies. This job has an automatic progression plan. An employee hired as an Equipment Operator-LC / TV will automatically advance to Senior Equipment Operator-LC / TV upon reaching 5 years of continuous experience as an Equipment Operator-LC / TV with SAWS.
Essential functions include stocking vehicles with necessary equipment and materials, cleaning, organizing, and maintaining facilities, tools, and equipment, assisting with the setup of work zones for traffic control, communicating effectively both orally and in writing, interpreting street guides, as-built drawings, schematics, block maps, and construction plans, assisting in providing basic to complex condition assessments of the sewer collection system, initiating pipeline repairs, replacements, or rehabilitation, using computers to record data in computerized maintenance management system software, frequently operating and maintaining sewer cleaning and pipe assessment equipment, frequently operating other medium to heavy equipment as needed, applying principles of confined space, high pressure, electrical safety, and other hazards associated with generally accepted collection system maintenance standards, and performing other duties as assigned.
Decision making for this position works under general supervision. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, eighteen months' experience in the truck driving, construction, water, or wastewater or similar work environment, proficiency in the use of materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in a construction environment, a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain the Tanker endorsement within thirty (30) calendar days, basic PC skills, passing position-specific physical testing, and the ability to report to work on time, maintain a good attendance record, and work all designated work schedules.
Preferred qualifications include the ability to use word processing, spreadsheets, database, and computerized maintenance management system software, and a Class "I" Texas Wastewater Collection System Operator License or Class "C" Distribution Texas Water Operator License or Class "C" Texas Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License or higher level license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Physical demands and working conditions include frequent lifting / carrying up to 50 pounds and lifting / dragging up to 170 pounds occasionally, standing, sitting, walking, climbing, bending, crawling, squatting, kneeling, and working in cramped and strained positions for long periods of time, visual acuity and speech and hearing, working primarily outside with frequent exposure to inclement weather, wastewater, mechanical, electrical, chemical, and confined space hazards, offensive fumes, excessive noise, heavy traffic, deep excavations, and animals, operating a company vehicle on a daily basis, and working hours other than regular schedule such as days, nights, weekends, holidays, on-call, and rotating shifts.
