Title : Histology Technician
Location : Santa Rosa, CA
Duration : 13 weeks
Shift : Days, 5×8 (08 : 30–17 : 00), Monday–Friday; floating required
Job Responsibilities and All Required & Preferred Skills / Requirements :
Perform a full range of histology procedures including grossing, embedding, microtomy, tissue processing, and staining
Prepare and process routine anatomic pathology specimens
Perform automated and manual IHC and special stains
Handle frozen sections, decalcification, and various specimen types (core biopsies, excisions, curettings, etc.)
Prepare cytology specimens including ThinPrep, cytospin, and cell block preparations
Maintain equipment, document procedures, and follow quality and safety protocols
Collaborate with laboratory, pathology, radiology, and phlebotomy teams
Float within department and affiliated sites as needed
Required Skills & Experience :
Minimum 2 years histology experience
Grossing experience – HARD STOP requirement
Hospital-based histology experience required (strict)
ASCP-HT certification required
Experience with :
Grossing and fixation techniques
Embedding (GI, large, small, skin specimens)
Microtomy (fatty tissue, frozen sections, hard tissue, precision microtomy)
Tissue processing (automatic processors, dehydration, clearing, microwave processing)
Staining (H&E, IHC, special stains, Giemsa, PAS, carbohydrate / amyloid, nuclear / cytoplasmic stains)
Mounting and coverslipping procedures
Cytology preparation skills (ThinPrep, cell block, cytospin, gyn specimens)
Competence in identifying artifacts and ensuring specimen integrity
Ability to work independently in a clinical laboratory environment
EPIC charting experience preferred
Preferred Skills : \nFrozen section experience\nExperience in a teaching hospital\nGreater than 10 years of overall laboratory experience (preferred for first-time travelers)\n\nAdditional Requirements : \nNo first-time travelers unless exceptionally experienced\nAdults / geriatric and adolescent patient specimen population\nCandidates must be willing to float within the hospital or to nearby affiliated sites
