Project Editor, Journals

The Project Editor supports the publishing activities of the Journals program of the University of Nebraska Press, producing high-quality electronic and print journals. Key responsibilities include project management, which involves simultaneously managing schedules, budgets, editorial, design and production, printing, and hiring and directing freelance copyeditors for multiple projects; heavy and continuous communication with editors, freelancers, authors, staff, and vendors to ensure successful production of print and electronic publications; and supervising in-house editorial and production staff.

Required Qualifications :

Bachelor\'s degree in English or a related humanities field and 1 year direct editorial experience in academic publishing, including copyediting, proof checking, and production.

Supervisory skills.

Work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds and viewpoints.

Experienced interaction with editors, freelancers, authors, and vendors.

Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Scribe\'s Well-Formed Document Workflow.

Excellent editorial, grammar, writing, and communication skills.

Detailed working knowledge of well-known style guides and electronic editing.

Ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment while still paying close attention to detail.

Strong project management skills with demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects that span a wide range of subject areas.

Flexible in dealing with constantly changing schedules and deadlines.

Be able to multitask, plan, and problem solve.

Preferred Qualifications :

Master\'s degree in English or a related humanities field

Experience in scholarly journals publishing.

Experience dealing with outside print vendors.

Knowledge of print production and type specifications and knowledge of copyright / permission issues.

Knowledge in manuscript formatting and tagging using Scribe.
