Data Center Operations Technician (contract)
Job Description
Data center is the core of SUSE life. It contains hundreds of machines of all possible kinds – from straightforward Intel servers to mainframes and prototypes. Data Center Operations Technicians are critical figures, which ensure that the infrastructure is running well, being developed, issues are addressed and fixed in time and the whole service is being provided to the company with highest possible quality.
As a Data Center Operations Technician you will work in cooperation with all Engineering and IT departments to install, maintain and provision hardware and software for the data centers.
This is a 6-month contract with an option to become a permanent position. You will play a crucial role in our new project of moving the data center from Provo to Salt Lake City.
You will :
Support deployment of on-site data center physical infrastructure
Install, replace and troubleshoot cables and hardware
Troubleshoot network installation and configuration
Participate in projects related to the expansion of the data centers
Oversee the environments of a data centers, supervise systems and identify, log, and report issues
Coordinate with other teams and vendors to guarantee that uptime is maximized
Monitor activity and access to the data centers and its operations to ensure compliance of security policies
Required qualifications :
Intermediate knowledge of server hardware and components
Physical ability to lift & rack equipment up to 20kg
Proficient level of English
Preferred qualifications :
2-3 years of experience as a Data Center Technician, or similar role
Knowledge of Linux administration
Understanding of TCP / IP networks, network equipment installation and configuration
CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Network, or CCNP certification, Basic Structure Cabling (BSC)
Ability to keep up with advancements in Data Center infrastructure and technologies
Desire to learn, grow, and develop new technical skills
