  • Job Summary Employee is responsible for entry level coding. Employee is responsible Ancillary areas using ICD-10-CM codes and / or E / M coding. Employee will be required to physically report to HIM department for 6 months. Timeline for remote reporting is based on the discretion of the Coding Manager / HIM Director based on individual performance. If the employee is able to consistently meet accuracy and productivity, the employee will have the option to be trained on other outpatient types (ED and Observations). All coding will be assigned based on ICD-10-CM / PCS Basic Coding Guidelines, CPT AMA Coding Guidelines, official HCFA (CMS) Guidelines (when appropriate), and Children's of Alabama MIS Departmental Coding Guidelines.
  • Education Associates degree required; Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Experience No experience required upon successful completion of certified coding program along with required certifications listed in job description; Applicant must be able to pass a pre assessment exam. One to three years of experience preferred but not required.
  • Licensures, Certifications, and / or Registries RHIT, RHIA, and / or CCS required. Bachelor’s degree acceptable in lieu of certification, but RHIT / RHIA must be obtained within six months of hire.
