Environmental Research Group (ERG) seeks a full-time Project Archaeologist to engage in project work in the greater Oklahoma area with opportunities to work across the nation. Candidates based in / around Norman, OK are highly preferred.

As a Project Archaeologist, you would be expected run field projects (including travel with overnight stays for 1 - 4 weeks at a time) , assist with report writing, peer review, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with a team.

The Ideal Candidate Will Meet / Exceed the Following Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field
  • Professional Experience

1+ years of experience in Project Archaeologist position on archaeological field projects in a cultural resource management environment (leading crews, drafting reports, client communication)

  • Conducting field surveys, Phase II & III testing projects, and archaeological monitoring
  • Experience with shovel testing and mechanical trench excavation
  • Significant technical report contributions for regulatory coordination
  • Experience with artifact analysis (historic artifacts, lithics, ceramics, etc.), geophysical remote sensing, metal detection, and / or other specialties a plus
  • Regulatory and Permitting Proficiency
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and state cultural and environmental resource regulations (Section 106, NEPA, Antiquities Code of Oklahoma, and guidelines for archaeological investigations in Oklahoma and surrounding states)

  • Professional Skills
  • Detail-oriented, strong communication, data collection & analysis skills

  • GIS-based field data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, including as a team leader
  • Able to work with both less experienced and more seasoned staff, with the ability to know when the roles on the project need to be support vs. decision maker

  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in remote locations under various conditions (physical stamina required)
  • Ability to be a flexible & collaborative team member
  • Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver's license

  • Ability to pass security clearances and background checks
  • The base salary range for this position is $54k to $58k per year, commensurate with experience. Discretionary bonuses are offered for exceptional performance. ERG's benefits package includes health insurance, paid holiday and vacation, and a 401(k) plan with an employer contribution regardless of employee contribution.
