ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TECHNICIAN
JOB SUMMARY
The Environmental Services Technician will perform various patient restocking, housekeeping, laundry and minor maintenance duties to maintain the hospital in a clean, sanitary and attractive condition. Some assignments will require the operation of large floor equipment and laundry equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Educational Requirements : High School Diploma / Equivalent
Preferred Licensure, Certification, and Registration : Certified Health Care Environmental Services Technician (CHEST) desired / preferred
Certificate in Non-acute Care Cleaning (CNACC) desired / preferred
Preferred-1 year of housekeeping and or Laundry experience in a healthcare environment
Ability to read, write, add and subtract.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Must have knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their use or ability to be trained.
Ability to operate small electrical equipment (vacuums, etc.)
Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods.
Ability to bend, stoop, and crouch for prolonged periods.
Ability to lift and move equipment up to Fifty (50) pounds.
Ability to work cooperatively around patients and other staff members.
Ability to maintain flexibility in work assignments and schedule.
Specific assignments require knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment.
Ability to operate commercial and residential laundry equipment.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Supervision Received : Reports to the Environmental Services Manager and Environmental Supervisors.
Supervision Exercised : None
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Communication with patients, staff members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
TOOLS / EQUIPMENT USED
Routinely uses dusters, brooms, mops, buckets, and cleaning chemicals. Specific assignments require the use of rotary scrubber, floor extractor, floor vacuum, buffer machines, washer, and dryer.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS
Risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste, or blood-borne disease.
Employees are expected to exercise good judgment in the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol.
