Comptroller's Department Internship
As a reporting department to the Chief Financial Officer, the Comptroller's Department is a team of dedicated professionals who ensure the accuracy of the Port Authority's finances. The Payroll Accounting role's overall purpose and mission is to ensure all employees are compensated accurately and on time while maintaining strict adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Payroll Accounting role is interesting and rewarding for several reasons, primarily stemming from its critical importance to both employees' livelihoods and business operations, combined with a dynamic environment of continuous learning and technological advancement.
Responsibilities :
- Assist with printing and distributing on-cycle and off-cycle checks.
- Collect supporting documentation for audit sample selection requests.
- Process forms related to employee direct deposit information and tax data.
- Perform updates related to AFLAC, XCEL & Union Dues.
- Process authorization forms for time approval access.
- Perform primary and backup timekeeper updates.
- Maintain Timekeeper and Approver email distributions.
- Process timekeeping access requests.
- Assist with biweekly Payroll close related items as time permits.
- Assist with special projects as time permits.
- Participate in team meetings and brainstorming sessions.
Minimum Qualifications :
Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship.Major in Accounting, Business, Finance or related discipline.Desired Qualifications :
Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Suite Office, preferably Excel applications.Demonstrated strong analytical skills in reconciling financial information.Internship Details :
The start date will be Thursday, May 28, 2026.The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, ending on Friday, August 21, 2026.This is a full-time internship (5 days per week at 7.25 hours per day).In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.Selection Process :
