We are currently searching for an experienced Traffic Engineer / Project Manager to support our East Gulf Region group located in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Montgomery, or Tuscaloosa, AL . Candidates must be willing to relocate to Alabama if out of state.
What you’ll be doing :
- Perform routine aspects of assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles
- Projects may include traffic operations analysis, traffic signal design, traffic signal timing development, corridor planning studies, transportation safety studies, roadway master planning, long range transportation planning, and transportation modeling (micro and macro)
- Work on temporary traffic control plan / traffic management plan (TMP) and signing, pavement marking plans
- Work on traffic signal design plans for new intersections and signal modifications to facilitate multimodal accommodations
- Assist in preparing conceptual intersection layouts, schematics, signal timings and engineering reports
- Assist with and prepare roadway design plans
- Attend project meetings with clients
- Learn project budgets to meet financial metrics
- Potential to learn and participate in business development activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Assist East Gulf Manager in development of junior engineering staff
- Prepare engineering studies, documents, and reports

What you need to have :
B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited engineering program5+ years of experience – Must be in traffic engineering and / or transportation planning with a history of progressive growth in project responsibilitiesAlabama PE License requiredPTOE, PTP, and / or RSP certifications are a plusCompetency with traffic engineering and transportation planning practices and proceduresCompetency with Synchro, VISSIM, SIDRA, HCS, and MicrostationFamiliarity with CUBE Voyager and TransCAD is a plusFamiliarity with OpenRoads Designer is desired but not requiredCompetency with MS Office productsMust be dependable with the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide high quality workCharacteristics of a successful Volkert team member : Be a brand ambassador for the company who engages in diversity and inclusionBe self-motivated to meet individual goals and maintain accountability in a team environmentExercise initiative and independent judgement in the solution of work problemsBe able to communicate effectively- verbal and writtenBe able to multi-task in a team environmentVolkert Perks :
