About this opportunity :

Join Cenovus Energy as a Staff Process Development Engineer in Ohio. You will play a pivotal role in developing project scopes for our Ohio Refineries, emphasizing balanced and efficient solutions. This position offers the opportunity to lead large projects and manage contractor performance, ensuring flawless execution and competitiveness.

What you’ll do :

Lead front-end development (FED) phases of capital projects, including scope definition, risk assessment, and economic justification.

Collaborate with asset teams, technical experts, and cross-functional departments (EHS, Reliability, PSM, Environmental) to ensure project alignment and compliance.

Manage contractor selection, performance, site access, and safety requirements throughout FED project execution.

Develop project justifications, economic models, and design documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, H&MBs) to support decision-making and capital prioritization.

Conduct quality control reviews of process engineering deliverables, including equipment sizing, relief calculations, and process safety information.

Support Management of Change (MOC) processes and participate in HazOp reviews for large-scale projects requiring regulatory updates.

Identify and rank capital opportunities based on return vs. complexity, supporting long-range planning and margin improvement initiatives.

Ensure engineering standards are followed and documented by contractors, and support technical training and development in refining technologies.

Who you are :

Legally authorized to work in the US

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering

12+ years of experience in refining process engineering and project engineering

Proven skills in unit modeling, equipment sizing, and hydraulic assessments

Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time, including between Ohio Refineries
