Job Title : Advanced Practice Provider Nurse Practitioner (NP)
Department : Behavioral Health / Psychiatry
Position Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider NP provides comprehensive medical care to patients admitted to the psychiatric unit. This role focuses on managing medical comorbidities, conducting physical assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and collaborating closely with the psychiatric and multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive medical assessments for patients admitted to the psychiatric unit.
- Provide ongoing management of acute and chronic medical conditions during hospitalization.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and therapists to develop and implement integrated treatment plans.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging studies as appropriate.
- Prescribe and manage medications related to physical health concerns, following hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Identify and address potential medical complications that may affect psychiatric treatment or patient safety.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, daily rounds, and discharge planning.
- Provide consultation to psychiatric staff regarding medical issues and preventive health practices.
- Ensure documentation meets regulatory, legal, and hospital standards (including EMR charting).
- Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, and health promotion.
- Maintain current knowledge of evidence-based practices in psychiatry and internal medicine.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure :
Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN / DNP) from an accredited program.Current Nurse Practitioner license in MI.Board certification as an Adult, Family, or Acute Care NPCurrent DEA registration and prescriptive authority.BLS and ACLS certification.Experience :
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in internal medicine, family practice, or hospitalist setting.Experience working with psychiatric populations preferred.Knowledge of psychotropic medications and interactions with medical treatments is an asset.Core Competencies
