Construction Equipment Operator

Under general supervision, operates and maintains portable and self-propelled construction machines. Examples of Duties Operates construction equipment consistent with departmental standards and procedures. Operates construction equipment in a variety of construction and maintenance projects, including, but not limited to, backfilling trenches; grading and leveling construction sites; loading and unloading materials; stripping soil from construction sites; and laying, finishing or refinishing asphalt. Coordinates with grounds crews the efficient sequence of operations. Changes attachments on equipment. Performs field adjustments on equipment. Performs minor maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment, including, but not limited to, cleaning and servicing with gasoline, diesel fuel, water, oil, and grease. Directs the activities of helpers assisting in construction activities. Repairs and / or assists in overhauling construction equipment during inclement weather or as required.
