Job Opportunity With The City Of Akron

The City of Akron is offering a sub-professional work opportunity in a student work-study program in conjunction with a college or university baccalaureate co-op program. This position supports professional civil engineering, urban planning, architecture, or landscape architecture in any one of several areas as part of a coordinated program of employment and instruction with a college or university leading to a degree in engineering, surveying, or architecture.

The role involves receiving training and performing duties in support of professional personnel of the City. This includes collecting, compiling, and analyzing data, conducting research, providing assistance with assigned projects, performing quantity calculations to measure materials, assisting in quality control of construction work, preparing construction plans, setting up and operating various surveying instruments, and preparing daily reports of construction activities. The employee will also drive to work sites, meetings, and conferences, and perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have completed the required schooling at an accredited college or university for the start of a co-op program in civil, structural, mechanical, chemical, industrial, or electrical engineering; construction engineering technology, surveying and mapping technology, landscape architecture, or architecture. You must also possess a valid state of Ohio driver's license. Additional qualifications include knowledge of basic research methods and techniques, the ability to prepare clear and concise reports, effective communication skills both orally and in writing, the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to maintain effective working relationships with others, and the ability to operate personal computers and safely operate a motor vehicle.
