Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Telemetry RN with at least two years of med-surg / tele and prior travel experience for an acute care observation unit in West Virginia.

Responsibilities

Work in a 32-bed acute care telemetry observation unit with primarily adult and geriatric patients

Common patient diagnoses include respiratory and medical conditions, with care for patients with trachs (not vented)

Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 6

Unit has 24 / 7 monitor techs and charge nurses; travelers may be cross-trained for charge nurse duties

Shift is 12 hours, days, from 6 : 45 am to 7 : 15 pm, with every other weekend and rotational holidays required

Block scheduling is allowed as long as unit needs are met

Floating may be required to other Med-Surg units or the Emergency Department for boarded patients

Uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic preferred

RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow O2, trach collars, IV pumps, and pulse oximetry

RNs are responsible for strip review each shift in collaboration with monitor techs and charge nurses

Two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor are provided, along with first-day general orientation and computer training

Navy scrubs are required for RNs; scrubs must be solid color with no patterns or embroidery

Solid color fleece zip-ups and undershirts permitted in specific colors; closed-toed shoes required

No local travelers allowed; must live more than 50 miles from the facility

Returning travelers must have a 2-year break from any WVU Medicine location for consideration

Travelers are limited to working within WVU facilities for up to one year, after which a two-year break is required

Holiday scheduling is managed with consideration for prior years' coverage and preferences

Requirements

Active WV or compact RN license required

Minimum 2 years of recent Med-Surg / Telemetry RN experience

Prior travel RN experience required

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

Experience with telemetry, critical drips, and trach care required

Experience with peritoneal dialysis preferred

Ability to titrate drips such as Heparin, Cardizem (up to 15mg / hr), Lasix, Dopamine (low dose), and Amiodarone
