Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner
Perform forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted and provides related patient care and referrals.
- Take a medical history and account of the assault from the patient. Assesses the patients psychological condition and performs physical examination.
- Collects and preserves all evidence, collects relevant specimens and documents findings.
- Provide direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications. Refers to appropriate personnel / facility for further treatment as necessary.
- Communicate with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting). Provides victim advocacy and / or expert testimony in court trials.
Licensure / Certification / Registration :
BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.Certification specializing in Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner preferred.Education :
Diploma from an accredited school / college of nursing required. Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-A within 12 months and completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-P within 16 months, if applicable.
