Dual Director of Sales -Courtyard By Marriott East Lansing Okemos & Staybridge Suites Okemos

The Courtyard By Marriott East Lansing Okemos has an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Director of Sales & Marketing. The right candidate will lead the Sales and Marketing team to meet / exceed our budgeted revenue goals by ensuring a high standard of professionalism, guest service, and profitability. Develop, implement, manage and oversee sales staff for the total sales and marketing strategy of the hotel. Responsible for revenue and room night sales goals achievement, revenue, sales and marketing strategies are set in place to achieve to company standards

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Assists with the development of the hotel's marketing and sales plan based on the hotel's position and strengths within each market segment.
  • Represents the hotel at various community, industry, and civic functions and maintains / cultivates these relationships.
  • Leads, trains, and mentors staff including hiring, coaching development, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
  • Analyzes and understands the competition's strengths and weaknesses for each market segment and successfully directs marketing activities against each.
  • Identifies and maintains constant communications with the hotel's key accounts.
  • Actively sells room nights through outside / in house sales calls, tours, etc.
  • Perform as the driver of all revenue and ensure quarterly and annual revenue goals are achieved for the hotel.
  • Develop sales action plans, and forecast and evaluate trends to modify strategies that will enhance revenues effectively.
  • Ensure that hotel credit procedures and audit guidelines are followed.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the sales team, plan, organize, and assign work, develop and communicate strategies and goals.
  • Produce weekly, monthly reports and sales forecasts.
  • Analyze current / potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate.
  • Identify operational problems that impact the effectiveness of marketing activities and overall hotel sales performance and work with appropriate department heads on solutions.
  • In coordination with the General Manager, serve as hotel representative for media related inquiries and refer sensitive matters to corporate if necessary.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Network and maintain communication with outside contacts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.  May serve as “manager on duty” as required.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and / or holidays.
  • Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with others; demonstrated ability to interact with guests, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the brand and the Company.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit / loss concepts, percentages, and variances are utilized frequently.
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities are used often.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum experience of 2 years in a sales role within hotels.

Marketing Degree preferred.

Proven ability to direct the work of others and mentor / develop less experienced managers

Event coordination experience (preferred)

Must speak fluent English.

Detail-oriented and highly organized

Positive attitude & team player mentality.

Outstanding relationship management abilities.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and be flexible with external and internal customer requirements.

Excellent communication & presentation skills.

  • Ability to conceptualize and implement strategic sales & event management plans.
  • Ability to travel to attend workshops, trade shows, conventions, etc.  May require a valid Driver’s License.
  • Experience with sales & catering systems  (i.e. Fosse, Marsha, One Yield).
  • Ability to develop, influence and close contracts
  • Provides excellent follow-up
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
