Range Master

General Statement of Job :

The Range Master is an essential position to manage the operations at the Public Safety Training Facility. The Range Master will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Kissimmee Police Department's law enforcement training programs, ensuring the Public Safety Training Facility meets federal and state environmental safety standards, inspect and schedule maintenance for equipment supporting the facility and facilitate all outside requests to utilize the facility. This role ensures the Kissimmee Police Department is able to provide its members with training meeting, or exceeding, FDLE and federal standards for law enforcement. The Range Master will collaborate with internal staff and external agencies, manage quality assurance efforts, and support the development and maintenance of department policies and procedures. The Range Master will be responsible for supervising the training unit personnel and report to the Training Unit Sergeant.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities :

• Maintains records of range activities, range maintenance, training operations and submit reports as required.
• Assists in planning and budgets for major facility equipment upgrades and / or repair.
• Develops and maintains schedule for repairs, cleaning of range and replacement of range equipment.
• Performs minor repairs and replacement of range related equipment (targets, target systems, bullet trap, baffling, etc.)
• Schedules and oversees the work of vendors providing maintenance and repair for the range facility.
• Maintains supplies for training facility.
• Serves as primary contact for all training facility activities.
• Coordinates with outside agencies on the use of firing range, ensures outside instructors are informed and adhere to safety standards and usage safety rules.
• Repairs and services firearms for sworn members.
• Evaluates new firearms technology for potential use in the agency.
• Evaluates, updates, and develops firearms courses and required bi-annual department qualifications.
• Supervise permanently assigned range officers and adjunct firearms instructors.
• Provides input to training unit supervisor for performance review of permanently assigned training personnel.
• Oversees all phases of firearm instruction (orientation, in-service training, advanced courses and specialized courses).
• Oversees instruction in various specialized programs, i.e. Citizen's Police Academy, School of Government, etc.
• Oversees the instruction in the use of force / response to resistance (chemical agent, SAGE, ECD, firearm, scenario-based training and patrol operations).
• Respond to inquiries from other agencies regarding training practices, range operations and range design.
• Provides input in the evaluation of officer involved shooting incidents, use of force and make recommendations for training updates.
• Assists Quartermaster with inventory management tracking of range and classroom assets.
• Performs annual audits of sworn members FDLE Law Enforcement and Instructor certifications and updates those certifications in ATMS.
• Performs other related duties.
