Position Summary
Title : Assistant Superintendent : Instruction & School Performance
Job Summary : Responsible for the direct supervision and evaluation of school-based principals and implementing the district's mission in the assigned network, improving student achievement.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide direct technical and instructional support to principals and school administrators.
- Assist and supervise principals in developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating continuous school improvement plans aligned with district goals.
- Use data to plan, monitor, and evaluate performance of principals, teachers, and students for continuous improvement.
- Participate in budget decisions and oversee expenditures for assigned schools.
- Plan and facilitate high‑quality, data‑driven professional development for principals and aspiring leaders.
- Minimize disruption to school schedules by coaching principals in natural settings.
- Assist the Associate Superintendent in prioritizing professional development needs and resource allocation.
- Monitor education research and trends to support staff development and school improvement efforts.
- Serve as liaison with community stakeholders to address curricular needs and concerns.
- Monitor school progress through feedback from all levels of the system.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree in educational administration, supervision, or curriculum and instruction from a regionally accredited college or university is required.
Doctoral Degree in education or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university is preferred.
Experience
Experience with educational accountability measures and understanding of federal reform efforts.Experience working in a highly collaborative environment with teamwork, problem solving, and self‑motivation.Experience coaching principals and leading professional development.At least 5 years as a school principal.At least 10 years of progressively responsible leadership / management experience in a public educational setting.Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of current trends and research in school leadership, data analysis, professional development delivery models, and achievement gap elimination.Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills.Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and complete tasks accurately.Strong leadership and management qualities; ability to supervise others.Proficiency with business technology applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).Licenses & Certifications
Superintendent I Certificate issued by Maryland State Department of Education (required).Driver's License (Class C Non‑Commercial) issued by Maryland (required).Daily access to reliable transportation (required).Driving Requirements
Driving is required for board business within scope of employment.Leadership Role
