Machine Specialties, LLC (MSI) is a leading contract machining and metal finishing company located in Whitsett, NC, about 8 miles outside of Greensboro, NC. We are Searching for an experienced, process resilient, detail orientated Engineering Manager who has a track record of instituting process. The ideal candidate will be an individual who is a natural leader, able to develop individuals and teams.
This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to our Vice President of Operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Able to demonstrate mastery of a 'tool-box' of relevant processes and skills, that he / she intentionally and carefully develops to bring order, cadence and rigor to a busy, dynamic, complex engineering environment.
- Uses, and propagates, use of recognized processes to achieve goals and objectives - to include Structured Problem Solving, DFMA, PFMEA, and relevant Stage / Gate NPI.

Process Ownership
Responsible for company's New Product Introduction Plan - development of, adherence to, and on-going improvement. Works cross-functionally to lead and engage appropriate company resources and functions to improve the performance of the process and products therein. Critical measures will be resources consumed in the process, the quality of the product, the First Article, the ability to meet rate / schedule, the process reliability and flexibility. Able to bring and implement appropriate Stage / Gate methodology, apply DFM(A) / PFMEA logic and actively arbitrate Customer Requirements.Continuous Improvement - active participant in company efforts, able to help lead, encourage participation, and follow through on action implementation, and process closure. Continually researches for new methods, operational processes or tools to enhance or improve existing products and work processes.Critical Issue Response - able to bring standardized Structured Problem-Solving tools and techniques to bear on internal or external issue resolution and is able to command credibility with internal and external audiences for diligence and resolution steps.Quotes / Proposals - shepherds Engineering team resources to positively contribute to the Company's quoting process, supporting more accurate and timely quoting activities.Contract Review - leads all Engineering relevant assessments and channels feedback to relevant peers, and customers where appropriate.Review and application to Company processes of external technology, industry developments , customer approvals such as to accelerate Company performance and progress.Responsibilities
Coordinates and is responsible for activities of all engineering personnel and outside consultants and / or contractors; develops engineering action plans to guide timely and cost-effective development of projects; maintains the system of budget and schedule control.Supervises engineering services for preparation and drafting of drawings, schematics, product specifications, bill of materials, operation / service manuals, assembly manuals, and other documentation necessary to manufacture new products.Prepares and / or reviews engineering change requests; discusses feasibility with product development committee; develops and oversees preparation and implementation of all engineering change notices and document change control.Assists and coordinates with Manufacturing for development of processes, tooling and molds necessary to produce new products.Provides support to Direct Customers, Sales & Marketing peers, and Customer Service personnel with orientation and training on new products introductions, issue resolution, and assists with preparation of sales presentations etc.Performs other engineering duties as requested by the Vice President of Operations.Requirements
Proven work experience as an Engineering Manager or similar role, ideally in an aerospace and / or complex machining type operation with similarly integrated special processes (plating, shot peening, etc.)Has firsthand familiarity with high mix, low batch work flow in a capital intensive business.Can demonstrate having brought rigor and process discipline to a less robust, middle market type enterprise though process deployment.Has built and developed a team, has developed individuals - can speak to added value provided of a well-functioning team within a larger organization.Skills
