Join the Hawaiʻi State Department of Education as a Complex Academic Officer in the Kailua‑Kālaheo Complex Area. This limited‑term, 12‑month appointment focuses on driving school improvement and supporting educational excellence across the complex.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate, and manage school improvement efforts for the complex area, ensuring schools receive guidance in developing and implementing improvement plans.
- Oversee needs assessments, selection of evidence‑based interventions, resource reviews, and identification of inequities to create effective systems for data collection, analysis, and monitoring.
- Collaborate with principals and school leadership to monitor performance and report on the impact of interventions on student outcomes.
- Prepare and facilitate dissemination of accountability data and other school‑improvement information for the Complex Area Superintendent.
- Serve as an active member of DOE tri‑level teams, professional learning networks, and provide sustained professional development activities.
- Act as liaison with external providers and ensure compliance with technical assistance and Title I monitoring.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in education from an accredited institution, with a specialization in a relevant subject field.Six years of responsible experience in education, including four years of teaching and two years of curriculum or program planning.Foundational knowledge of curriculum, instruction, instructional media, assessment, educational statistics, and relevant laws and regulations.Desired Qualifications
Degree specialization in systemic change, school improvement, or school administration.Two years of administration experience at the school, district, or state level involving supervision of professional personnel.Four years of direct experience implementing school improvement efforts and working with state / federal accountability programs.Knowledge of educational leadership, assessment, evidence‑based practices, data systems, and strategies for school transformation.Ability to mentor administrators and teacher leaders, conduct professional development, manage transitions, and negotiate contracts or agreements.Salary and Benefits
Salary Range : EOSR‑7, $113,660 to $160,893 (first step $113,660 for non‑certified employees). 12‑month appointment with vacation, sick leave, and full benefits (health insurance, retirement, life insurance, etc.).
