Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Service - Medical Supply Technician to support critical operations in the sterile processing of medical and surgical supplies at Veterans Affairs Central California Health Care System in Fresno, CA. This role ensures that reusable medical equipment and instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and readily available for clinical use.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate through all areas of medical supply operations, including decontamination, sterilization, and distribution.
- Clean and disinfect reusable medical instruments and equipment using manual and automated processes.
- Assemble and wrap instrument trays based on surgical and clinical schedules.
- Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., steam, gas, or ultrasonic systems), and conduct tests to ensure effectiveness.
- Maintain and monitor sterile storage areas, stocking shelves with sterilized materials, and removing outdated items.
- Disassemble, clean, reassemble, and test complex medical equipment.
- Advise medical staff on equipment use and supply availability.
- Maintain inventory, track usage, and recommend reorders.
- Train clinical staff on sterile supply procedures as needed.

Minimum of 1 year of recent sterile processing medical supply experience in a hospital setting or healthcare facility.Knowledge of microbiology and sterilization principles.Experience with aseptic techniques, sterilization cycles, and medical terminology.Familiarity with a wide range of surgical instruments and medical equipment.Ability to read and follow detailed instructions and safety procedures.Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.Ability to effectively speak, read and write in the English language.A Certificate in Sterilization is highly preferred.Salary
26.06 to $ 27.72 per hour48,000.00 to $ 57,657.60 annualizedWork Environment
Work involves regular exposure to contaminated and sterile environments.Must wear protective clothing (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns) in both clean and decontamination areas.Exposure to strong odors, noisy equipment, and bodily fluids is frequent.Work areas may be hot, humid, and confined.Physical Demands
