Water Plant Electrician

The City of Oxnard's Water Division is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Water Plant Electrician to join our Maintenance and Operations team. This role is vital in maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading the electrical, instrumentation, and control systems that support water treatment facilities, pressure stations, and related infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for a well-rounded electrician or instrumentation technician with hands-on experience in plant operations, SCADA systems, and motor control systemsespecially someone with the aptitude to learn programming or controls integration over time.

What You'll Do :

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Inspect, calibrate, test, and repair equipment such as : flow meters, pressure sensors, level indicators, gas detectors, pH and turbidity analyzers.
• Motors, VFDs, transfer switches, switchgear, and motor control centers.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Install and troubleshoot SCADA systems, PLCs, telemetry hardware, and communication systems.
• Install, modify, and maintain control panels, conduits, wiring, relays, and circuit breakers.
• Collaborate with operations staff to support plant processes and capital improvement projects.
• Maintain documentation for system configuration, testing, and inventory records.
• Participate in on-call rotations and respond to emergencies after hours or on weekends.
• Utilize asset management software to track maintenance tasks and work orders.

Payroll / Classification Title : Instrumentation & Control Technician

Supervision Exercised / Supervision Received : Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.

Distinguishing Characteristics : This is a journey-level, standalone classification within the Trades series, requiring independent judgment and strong technical skills. The ideal candidate demonstrates an understanding of both instrumentation principles and industrial electrical systems, with the drive to grow into automation or SCADA-related tasks over time.

Work Schedule : Regular hours : MondayThursday, 6 : 00 AM 4 : 30 PM. May require overtime, holiday coverage, and rotating standby / on-call duty.

Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis. This position requires a 12 month probationary period.
