Required Qualifications :
In order to become a candidate, you must possess the following skills and abilities.
Mechanical inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performing mechanical inspections for Building Construction.Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials and methods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and refrigeration installations.Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical InspectorProof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 yearsFall protection and harness training.Confined Space Entry TrainingKnowledge of Project Management Information Software used for inspection / document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web, Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.).Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contract documents efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspection documents, with minimal supervisionPreferred Qualifications :
Additional Current ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing InspectorNFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years is preferred.Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72 is preferred.Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation and repair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrial settings.Plumbing experience (journeyman / master level) with progression into inspection.Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial or public buildings.Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations on significant construction projects.Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders, including contractors, engineers, and city officials.Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects of construction meet the required standards.Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency.A strong understanding of diverse code requirements.Excellent communication and time management skills.Responsibilities :
Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilities projects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits, environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide construction inspection support.Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret construction documents including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reports that clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observed construction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in tracking progress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner.Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards.Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantitiesAssist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approved schedule of values.Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers, contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.Perform inspections of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations including, but not limited to :
Domestic Water and Sewage SystemsVenting, fire sprinklers, and gas pipingHVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork)Smoke Control SystemsMechanical ventilation and exhaustFire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers)Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout proceduresCommissioning and balancing reportsUnderground utilities and duct banksHigh-voltage switchgear and electrical panelsConduit racks, conductors, and grounding systemsInterior and exterior lighting systemsFire life safety systems including smoke / heat detectors and FM-200 suppression systemsElectrical shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures, and breaker coordinationInspect IT infrastructure installations such as :
Low-voltage systems (voice / data, security, access control)Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systemsCommunication cabling and equipment roomsMay assume other duties as required / needed.May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night.Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictated by the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules.Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure timely completion of tasks is preferred.Salary :
