Urban Designer / Senior Planner

The City of Virginia Beach Economic Development Department is recruitinga Planner III / Urban Designer to manage tasks and coordinate daily activitieswithin the Project Development Division. The Division oversees the Economic and Tourism Development portion of the City's Capital Improvement Program as well as the City of Virginia Beach Development Authority's business parks and assets.

Skills Required :

Duties of this position include, but are notlimited to :

• Develop maps, plans,exhibits, building massing models, development scenarios, design guidelines,and reports
• Graphicallyconceptualize land development on a parcel, block, and multiple-block scenariobasis, in accordance with relevant regulations and policies, utilizing relevantsoftware applications
• Review, evaluate, andanalyze reports regarding property acquisition, redevelopment scenarios,property assessed value, property ownerships, and property developmentalternatives
• Assist in the reviewof development-related applications, plans, and proposals for compliance withCity Code and policies relating to development
• Serve as a design,planning, and infrastructure liaison to the ViBe Creative District and ResortArea
• Present developmentprojects and programs to the Virginia Beach Development Authority and theResort Advisory Commission and its subcommittees
• Assist with thepreparation of Capital Project budget submittal and presentations, trackproject milestones and schedules, assist project managers and consultants
• Ability to lead teamsand provide creative direction to planning efforts at a variety of differentscales, from sites and streetscapes to small area plans and whole communityplanning efforts
• Develop cost estimates andbudgets for public and private development projects

Education Requirements : Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning,Urban Design, Geography, Urban Studies, Architecture, Engineering or relatedfield Travel Required : No
