About the Role
We are a privately held retail real estate owner and operator with a portfolio of fifteen shopping centers totaling over 2.3 million square feet in California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii. We are seeking an experienced retail Real Estate Paralegal to support our leasing, construction, and asset management teams. This is a hybrid position, and we are based in Westlake Village, California.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and manage retail letters of intent, leases, amendments, assignments, and related agreements
- Support lease negotiations and coordinate with brokers, tenants, and outside counsel
- Review REAs, CC&Rs, title, and survey documents; prepare due diligence summaries and reports
- Assist with acquisitions, financings, dispositions, and escrow closings
- Prepare and track default notices, estoppels, SNDAs, and other tenant communications
- Maintain organized legal files, databases, closing binders, and key date tracking systems
Construction Support
Draft, review, and track construction contracts, architectural / engineering agreements, and amendmentsAssist with lien waivers, mechanics’ lien filings, and compliance requirementsSupport contractor and vendor onboarding, insurance tracking, and bid processesCoordinate with construction teams on timelines, contract enforcement, and dispute resolutionAsset Management Support
Partner with asset managers to review and interpret lease and contract provisionsAssist in documenting lease modifications and renewal optionsCoordinate tenant communications related to operational and compliance mattersSupport enforcement of lease rights and remedies in collaboration with property managementQualifications
Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate (ABA-approved program preferred)4+ years of commercial real estate paralegal experience (retail landlord experience strongly preferred)Strong lease interpretation and drafting skillsFamiliarity with construction and development contractsExcellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlinesProficiency in Microsoft OfficeStrong oral, written, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.Motivated, self-starter with strong attention to detail.Compensation & Benefits
