Job Title : Senior Automation Technician

Location : Greater Syracuse, NY (On-Site)

Job Type : Full-time, direct hire

Salary Range : $85K–$92K annually, depending on experience

About the Role :

We are seeking a Senior Automation Technician to join our growing automation team at our manufacturing facility. This is a hands-on role focused on the support, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of complex automated manufacturing systems. The Senior Tech will act as a lead-level contributor—mentoring junior technicians, owning automation issues on the production floor, and driving equipment reliability initiatives. The role supports both daily operations and long-term automation projects, and interfaces closely with engineering, controls, and maintenance teams.

Key Responsibilities :

Mentor and train entry- and mid-level automation technicians.

Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and controls issues on automated equipment.

Lead equipment installations, upgrades, and system validations.

Execute shift-level tests on new or modified automation lines.

Collaborate with engineers on mechanical design and process integration.

Troubleshoot controls and PLC systems, including sensors, motors, and actuators.

Participate in cross-functional meetings to align on automation readiness and handoff timing.

Support preventative maintenance planning and documentation.

Champion equipment handoff from engineering to production.

Qualifications : Education :

Associate degree or higher in Automation, Mechatronics, or a related technical field preferred.

Experience :

10+ years of hands-on automation experience in a high-volume manufacturing setting.

Experience with machine installation, equipment validation, and troubleshooting.

Background in supporting molding processes and working with controls engineering teams.

Technical Skills :

Strong understanding of pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

Familiarity with PLC programming and troubleshooting.

Exposure to CAD, robotics, and machine vision systems is a plus.

Certifications :

Not required but any relevant technical certifications in automation or controls are a plus.

Soft Skills :

Ability to work independently while mentoring others.

Strong problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.

Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Comfortable in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
