Project Overview :
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Refrigerant Technician to join our mechanical contracting team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe handling, installation, recovery, charging, and maintenance of refrigerants in HVAC / R systems across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. The technician will ensure all work complies with federal, state, and local regulations, including EPA requirements.
Key Responsibilities :
- Install, maintain, and repair HVAC / R systems, including refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
- Safely recover, evacuate, charge, and test refrigerants in accordance with EPA Section 608 guidelines.
- Detect leaks and troubleshoot refrigerant-related issues using appropriate tools and methods.
- Maintain accurate service records and refrigerant logs in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Perform system diagnostics to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, estimators, and other field staff to complete tasks on schedule.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols and mechanical codes.
- Provide technical guidance to apprentices or junior technicians, as needed.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED; completion of HVAC trade school or apprenticeship program preferred.EPA 608 Universal Certification (required).Minimum [3–5] years of experience as a refrigerant or HVAC technician in a commercial / industrial setting.Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, refrigerant cycle, and applicable codes.Proficiency with gauges, leak detectors, vacuum pumps, recovery units, and other HVAC / R tools.Ability to read and interpret construction documents and technical manuals.Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.Ability to work independently and in team environments.Good communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.Minimum Hand Tools Required :
