Job Description :
The Estimator will support senior estimating leadership in both business development efforts and accurate preparation of bids for public and private construction projects.
Duties & Responsibilities :
- Proactively identify and cultivate relationships with potential clients and strategic partners to create new business opportunities.
- Oversee and coordinate quantity takeoffs prepared by assistant estimators.
- Use estimating software to assign labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor costs, and production rates in order to produce accurate cost estimates.
- Develop and submit detailed, project-specific contract proposals.
- Engage with clients to address scope, pricing, and budget-related questions and feedback.
- Secure client agreement for proposed work based on the original estimate and proposal.
- Negotiate and finalize contracts, ensuring mutual agreement on scope, terms, and conditions.
- Maintain involvement during project execution to support adherence to contractual commitments.
- Collaborate with project management and operations teams to ensure alignment with the agreed-upon estimate, scope, and contract conditions.
- Track and document all changes to the scope of work, including extra work and change orders.
Education & Experience :
Bachelor's degree in a construction-related field preferred.10–15 years of experience in public and private sector estimating, particularly in heavy civil or road construction.Regional multi-jurisdiction estimating experience is a plus.Proficiency with estimating software (such as Heavybid) and blueprint interpretation required.Demonstrated success in developing profitable client relationships.1–3 years of experience supervising or mentoring junior estimating staff.
