WILDLIFE AND FISHERIES TECHNICIAN SUPERVISOR / RUSSELL SAGE WMA

This position under the direction of a Biologist Supervisor is responsible for on-ground supervision and maintenance on Russell Sage WMA which is approximately 38211 acres. This position supervises two Wildlife Technicians to accomplish various tasks for the development and maintenance of the infrastructure and wildlife resources of the Wildlife Management Areas. The incumbent in this position may be required to work elsewhere statewide on occasion.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in wildlife or fisheries management research or conservation; forestry; land management; agriculture; commercial fishery; environmental science; or operation of heavy mobile equipment; OR

Ninety semester hours with eighteen hours in a biological marine or environmental science wildlife or fisheries management or research agriculture commercial fishery or forestry; OR

A bachelors degree in a biological marine or environmental science wildlife or fisheries management or research agriculture commercial fishery or forestry.

Job Duties and Other Information

Some of the duties of this position include :

Supervises and participates in the development and maintenance of roads ATV trails nature trails water control structures levees pumping station engines and pumps parking areas and camping areas.

Trains and assists Wildlife Technicians in all tasks related to their jobs.

Oversees managed public hunts collection of WMA user data issuance of permits and biological data collection.

Provides information to public users of the WMAs.

Assists Biologists with the management of wildlife species and habitats. Such activities could include wild turkey trapping wood duck nesting box projects duck trapping and nuisance animal control.

Supervises and participates in the maintenance of permit stations boundary lines headquarters and overnight facilities as well as equipment such as tractors bulldozers road graders farm equipment boats and ATV s.

Performs nuisance animal control activities including but not limited to feral hog trapping.

POSITION- SPECIFIC DETAILS :

This position will be domiciled in Ouachita Parish.

Appointment Type : Job appointment probational appointment promotional or detail to special duty.

If filled as a job appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
