General Summary of Position
Join our dedicated team at the Washington Cancer Institute (WCI) as an Outpatient Oncology Dietitian. In this rewarding role, you will develop and implement nutrition services tailored for oncology patients, providing essential counseling for patients and their families. Your contributions will enhance the quality of care by serving as a vital resource to medical, nursing, and administrative staff.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and implement Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) aligned with patients' needs, goals, and understanding. Provide supportive counseling while considering age, disease-specific physiology, psychosocial factors, and cultural backgrounds.
- Monitor patient progress closely and create follow-up recommendations for ongoing nutrition care.
- Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to coordinate nutritional interventions, participating in medical rounds and offering nutrition in-services to staff including residents, medical students, and nurses.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition services and contribute suggestions for improvements to the workflow and policies, enhancing the overall patient experience.
- Contribute creatively to WCI's Nutrition Program, proposing and developing new systems to improve patient care efficiency.
- Prepare and present quarterly reports to committees and management, ensuring transparency in nutrition service delivery.
- Utilize effective communication skills to engage with team members, patients, and families through direct consultations, charting, and participation in interdisciplinary committees.
- Ensure compliance with nutritional service policies and procedures in accordance with JCAHO, MWHC, and WCI standards, including routine chart reviews.
- Establish annual goals reflecting patient and departmental objectives, prioritizing and setting deadlines for completion.
- Maintain open communication with the Department Head regarding clinical program status and collaborate with staff to optimize nutrition delivery.
- Develop and conduct educational lectures, presentations, and health fairs for employees, healthcare professionals, and community members.
- Stay current in the field by attending meetings, utilizing library resources, and reviewing professional literature to ensure you are up-to-date with the latest advancements.
Minimal Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree from an American Dietetic Association accredited program in Dietetics, along with completion of a dietetics internship.Experience : 1-2 years of nutrition therapy experience in a clinical environment, preferably in acute care settings (gained during internship). Oncology experience is preferred.Licenses and Certifications : Must possess Dietitian DC DOH - DIETDC license and be a Registered Dietitian (RD) through the American Dietetic Association. Certification in Oncology Nutrition is preferred.This position offers a competitive salary range of USD $74,214.00 - USD $134,596.00 per year.
