Summary

Provide strategic vision and tactical direction for the effective development, implementation and attainment of the goals / operations of the County Judge's office by delegating the management of work assignments and the delivery of services and resources provided by the County and the budgets related to those services.

These activities are designed to create and provide a broad and comprehensive array of public policies and functional services to the county or its citizens / general public which may include both public relations or media communications, legal and regulatory compliance, and providing significant departmental support for various county projects, intergovernmental, multi-jurisdictional, or regional-related activities.

The incumbent will work with local, state, and federal elected officials.Posting may close at any time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Represents the County Judge in working with local, state, and federal elected officials on issues and legislation of county interest.
• Provides direction and support to county department directors and managers, on behalf of the County Judge.
• Performs visioning or implementation tasks at a high level, consistent with the responsibilities of the County Judge's Office, which may have a significant financial, or policy impact on actions and tasks.
• Develops and promotes services, policies, and / or programs to improve the effectiveness or efficiency of the county judge's department, other county departments, and other organizations
• Conducts management analysis or problem solving of issues affecting the county departments. Assess the effectiveness of service delivery methods, identifying opportunities for improving service, and implementing improvements.
• Assists the County Judge in the oversight of activities of the staff in the performance or managerial functions to plan, organize, and prioritize projects and tasks to achieve both short- and long-term goals.
• Maintains good working relationships with other governmental entities including cities, counties, state, and federal, and keep staffs informed of joint resources and projects.
• Coordinates activities and programs with other departments to expedite work and improve interdepartmental performance using tact and diplomacy.
• Attends governmental, community meetings and represents the County Judge and / or county on local boards.
• May administer personnel matters which include actions for hiring, firing and discipline.
• Acts as a resource for the County Judge, staff, constituents, and public regarding county policies and other issues.
• Directs the development and administration of the annual departmental budget.
• Maintains knowledge of skills, processes, and best practices in the area of responsibility.
• Assists citizens in resolution of various problems and complaints through the identification of resources and referral to services and programs.
• Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the County Judge's Office.

Minimum Requirements

TO APPLY, must have  Seven (7) full-time years of related work experience.

Expert knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures of the functional areas of the County Judge's office is desired.

Knowledge of county government and Tarrant County, in particular, is desired.

Broad knowledge of issues facing the county and the region is required.

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to articulate important information and concepts is required.

Highly effective interpersonal, negotiation, conflict resolution, and leadership skills are preferred.
