Classroom Teaching Assistant

To assist the classroom teacher in carrying out the responsibilities of classroom management, materials preparation, child movement and control, learning engagement, and duties assigned which are within the range of skills and training.

This is a part-time role working 2 to 5 days per week, 6.5 hours per day.

A pre-employment background and drug screening is required of all candidates offered employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Assist the teacher in room set-up and preparation for the beginning of the school year.
• Assist in greeting children at the beginning of each day and guiding them to early morning or afternoon activities.
• Assist teacher in preparation of materials to be used and distribution of materials.  All materials should be prepared for the next scheduled class day.  These jobs include but are not limited to cutting out art projects, preparing work for copying or laminating, stapling, grading papers, and filling student folders with materials to be sent home to parents.
• Grading will be limited to homework or class work, which includes true / false, multiple choice, matching, or short answer.  All other grading will be the sole responsibility of the classroom teacher.
• Teacher assistants will not enter grades into the grade book or RenWeb.  This is the sole responsibility of the classroom teacher.
