The HVAC / R Technician position provides physical mechanical support, repair, and maintenance of the Universitys heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, and specialty equipment including fume hoods.

Minimum Qualifications To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate in the application materials : Experience Only : Three years of relevant and progressively responsible journeyman HVAC experience related to the work assigned to this position.OR Education and Experience : A combination of related commercial HVACR education, formalized apprenticeship program, and / or relevant HVACR experience performing preventative maintenance, and repairs on buildings with rotating mechanical systems (fans, sheaves, belts, bearings, motors, pumps and filters) which are related to the work assigned equal to three years. (30 credits = one year of experience)

Essential Job Duties Job Duty Category Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Systems Duty / Responsibility

  • Operates, diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs various types of air conditioning and refrigeration systems and components. Performs preventative maintenance, diagnoses and repairs pumps, cooling towers, refrigerant and water piping, walk-in refrigerators, starters, coils, environmental chambers, ice machines, window AICs water coolers, and other various cooling equipment.
  • Percentage Of Time 30 Job Duty Category Heating, Ventilation Duty / Responsibility

  • Troubleshoots, repair, modifies and operates electrical, pneumatic and electronic control systems to gas and hot water heating system, air conditioning and ventilation systems including fume hoods. Operates heating and ventilation equipment to include steam, hydronic and gas fired systems. Perform maintenance services to components such as : expansion tanks, pressure and temperature limiting devises, heat exchangers, valve, pilot assembles, motors gas burners, orifices, regulators, v-belts, sheaves, and other types of heating and ventilation components.
  • Percentage Of Time 30% Job Duty Category Disposal and Recycling Duty / Responsibility

  • Proper use of refrigerant (CFC) recovery, reclaim, recycle refrigerant gases. Proper disposal techniques of contaminated CFCs and hazardous materials (oil and gas) as outlined by Federal, State and local governments.
  • Percentage Of Time 5 Job Duty Category Preventive Maintenance Duty / Responsibility

  • Perform scheduled, and nonscheduled preventive Maintenance on HVAC / R and Pneumatic equipment. Clean air intake as needed, check RTU blower motors, and condenser motor. Inspect the condition of all electrical hardware and connections, Test safety controls and equipment, check for proper operation of the interior unit, check the condensate drain pan for proper drainage. During the cooling season, inspect the condenser motor bearings for excessive noise or vibration, Inspect the condenser air intake, discharge and coil as required. Check the condition of all refrigerant piping and insulation. Secure any loose guards or access panels. Check the operation of the exterior unit. Making sure units and work areas such as mechanical rooms are clean and orderly
