Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN to join an Intermediate Care (Stepdown) Unit, requiring a WV or compact license and strong stepdown / telemetry skills.
Responsibilities
Work in a 30-bed Intermediate Care (Stepdown) Unit within an acute care settingPatient population includes chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, pre / post caths, and intermediate care acuity overflowNurse-to-patient ratios generally run 1 : 5, occasionally up to 1 : 6Patient monitoring is conducted using Nihon Kohden telemetry equipment; RNs must read and interpret own stripsRNs titrate critical drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally LasixEMR is Allscripts Sunrise; prior experience preferred but not required12-hour rotating day / night shifts, requiring flexibility for both days and nightsWeekend requirement includes 4 weekend shifts (day or night) per four-week scheduleAll nursing staff are required to float to Telemetry or MedSurg units as needed, with ratios in MedSurg potentially up to 1 : 7First day HR orientation followed by unit shifts with a preceptorHoliday scheduling is flexible; most holidays are typically covered by permanent staffNavy blue scrubs with navy jackets are required; hoodies are not permittedStaffing support includes charge nurses with patient assignments, clinical assistants, and 24 / 7 access to IV, RT, and pharmacy teamsIV initiations are handled by a dedicated IV teamRNs may care for patients on specialized therapies such as Tikosyn and may be assigned to pandemic units as neededCandidates who previously worked with this health system must have a 2-year break before reapplyingTravelers cannot work at this health system for longer than a year; a 2-year break is then requiredRequirements
Active WV or compact RN license is requiredMinimum of 2 years recent experience in stepdown or similar acute care settingCurrent certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS requiredExperience with titration of vasoactive drips and telemetry monitoring requiredMust be able to accurately read and interpret telemetry stripsMust provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license for considerationSubject to a 50-mile radius rule; local travelers not acceptedBenefits
